The first trailer for Lifetime’s upcoming film about Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s departure from royal life has been released.
Lifetime on Wednesday released a brief teaser for Harry & Meghan: ‘Escaping the Palace’ on Instagram, and it is full of flashes of the couple’s tumultuous last few years, which were previously imagined for television in Harry & Meghan: Escaping the Palace. A Royal Romance from 2018 and Becoming Royal from 2019.
Harry and Meghan: Escaping the Palace will follow the couple’s most recent chapter as they make the difficult decision to step away from royal life and relocate their family.
Following a backlash over casting earlier this year, actress Sydney Morton, who plays Meghan Markle, shared the first look clip on Instagram, giving fans a taste of what to expect.
In the trailer, Harry (Jordan Dean) consoles Meghan and discusses her treatment by the press, saying: ‘I see you literally being hounded to death and I’m helpless to stop it.’
Meghan replies: ‘I am the person who is strong and gets things right. I can’t lose you.’
The video also shows the pair recreating Meghan’s candid interview with Oprah Winfrey, in which she claimed that royal family members had “conversations with Harry about how dark [their son Archie’s] skin might be when he’s born.”
After the backlash over the casting, actress Sydney Morton described the experience of filming the Lifetime movie as a “wild ride.” It comes after a first-look photo of the couple dressed up as the royal couple was released earlier this year, which disappointed many people online – with some claiming they look nothing like the real Duke and Duchess.
It’s the third Lifetime film to tell the story of Meghan and Harry. The 2018 film Harry & Meghan told the story of the newlyweds’ love, while 2019’s Harry & Meghan: Becoming Royal examined their experiences inside the Royal Family during their first year of marriage.
