The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have welcomed their second child, a daughter, into the world.
Lilibet “Lili” Diana Mountbatten-Windsor was born in a hospital in Santa Barbara, California, on Friday morning.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex issued a statement on Sunday, June 6, announcing the arrival of their daughter, who arrived on Friday at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital in Santa Barbara, California. She and Meghan are both in good health and are settling in at their new home.
“Lili is named after Her Majesty the Queen, whose family nickname is Lilibet,” according to the announcement.
“Diana was selected as her middle name in honour of her late grandmother, Princess of Wales.
“On Friday, June 4, we were blessed with the arrival of our daughter, Lili. She is all we could have hoped for, and we are grateful for the love and prayers we’ve received from all around the world. Thank you for your continuous compassion and support as our family goes through this very important time”.
When Meghan and Harry’s baby daughter was born, Queen Elizabeth and other senior royals, including Prince Charles, Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, Prince William, and Kate Middleton, were stated to be “delighted.”
“The Queen, The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall, and The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have all been notified and are thrilled with the news of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex having a daughter,” a Buckingham Palace official said in a statement on Sunday.
Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor, Harry and Meghan’s first child, was born on May 6, 2019.
In February, the pair confirmed Meghan’s pregnancy, and during the Sussexes’ blockbuster appearance with Oprah Winfrey in March, Harry confirmed they were having a girl.
“To have a boy then a girl — what more can you ask for?” Harry said.
They also shared they won’t have any more children following their baby girl’s arrival: “Two is it.”
Prince Harry added of his feelings upon learning the baby is a girl, “Grateful, having any child, any one would have been amazing, but to have a boy and then a girl . . . now we’ve got our family and we’ve got four of us.”
