A 56-years-old woman, Mrs Ronke Olayinka, has escaped death after a rainstorm razed down a church building in Akure, Akure South Local Government Area of Ondo State.
Niger Delta Connect gathered that, the victim was an usher in Christ Apostolic Church, located along Oke-Aro.
Narrating her experience, Olayinka said that she had earlier gone to the church to prepare for evening service when the incident happened.
“While I was arranging the chairs, I heard a heavy wind blowing and I quickly went to close the doors and windows of the church.
“The next thing I saw was that the pillars inside the church started falling one after the other. I tried to walk to the door for an escape, but I was too far from it and I moved to another section of the Church where there was no danger. Suddenly, another greater wind blew in and blew everything to the left side of the building.
“I helplessly watched as the walls of the building started falling down one after the other. But I decided to stand still and started praying as that was the only thing I could do. I saw myself outside the Church, while the whole building was totally pulled down,” she narrated.
Another victim, a 32-year-old hairdresser, Mrs Adenike Olawole who escaped death with her children, narrated her near-death experience too.
According to her; “I have finished for the day and was packing my instruments into my caravan shop when the rain started. My children and I quickly ran inside the shop for safety. But suddenly, we felt the shop was in the air. The heavy wind blew away my shop while I was inside it with my children and dropped us few metres away”.
It was gathered that the Oke Aro wind destruction was said to have destroyed properties worth millions of naira.
