Despite the Federal Government’s last-minute efforts, doctors under the aegis of Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors has commenced a nationwide strike.
The doctors gave the indication of the commencement of the strike on Thursday morning via their association’s Twitter handle, @nard_nigeria.
Knowing the effect the strike will have on the country, the resident doctors, however, assured Nigerians that their action was not meant to hurt them.
The message read: “Nigerians must understand that we love them and the strike is not intended to hurt them but to challenge the Nigerian government @MBuhari @Fmohnigeria @LabourMinNG whose responsibilities amongst others is to care for her citizens and labour force to do the needful”.
The association’s President, Dr Uyilawa Okhuaihesuyi, who also confirmed that the strike had commenced, said no agreement was reached as at Wednesday night with the Federal Government.
Our correspondent reports that the strike is starting barley two days after President Muhammadu Buhari left for his routine medical check-up in London, United Kingdom.
