Frontline Yoruba socio-political group, Afenifere, has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to consider restructuring the country before the 2023 general elections.
Speaking through its National Publicity Secretary, Jare Ajayi, the Afenifere Group stated that the Nigerian Government should, within the shortest possible time, and definitely before the 2023 general elections, restructure the country.
According to the group, Nigerians would place less concentration on who becomes the president when the restructuring is in place.
He explained that the concern of the Afenifere Group is not particularly on the rising state of insecurity in the country, but rather their concern is on fairness, justice and good governance, adding that it is on this premise that the group is insisting on restructuring the country and this ought to happen before the 2023 elections.
The group further opined that with restructuring, insecurity would be better handled by the regions and when that happens, it would not matter much anymore who is at the centre, so long as the other parts of the country are in charge of their own affairs.
The National Publicity Secretary of the Afenifere Group stated that with Nigeria’s restructuring in place, the respective regions/states would be able to take care of the resources within their area.
These resources would be utilized to fast track the socio-economic development of the regions/states including the rural areas.
Also crimes, banditry, kidnapping, insecurity and other forms of social vices which are the major challenges our country is currently facing would be adequately addressed because the necessary apparatus is now in the control of the regions.
The group also highlighted the benefits of restructuring the country to include less concentration at the centre and less interference in the affairs going on within the states, while the dividends of democracy would be brought to the people at the grassroots.
