A retired naval officer, Rear Admiral JOHN NICHOLAS BAKPO, says the Nigerian elite are responsible for pushing the youth into violence and criminality.
BAKPO said this during an interview at Siin, in Khana Local Government Area of Rivers State.
He said, “Even though all the elites come together today to say they want to take over the leadership of this country and the youths say we are not voting for you, they will be voted out. You the youths are the ones carrying the boxes and then you said you are not allowed to rule. How can you rule when you are using riffle and guns to perpetrate people in office?
So the earlier you talk to yourselves the better.
“The man has no way to empower you then you also find a peaceful ways of voting him out. It is only when they know that the youths has the right to vote them in and out that the will continue to respect the youths and look for how to do the bid that will uplift the youths.”
Admiral BAKPO urged the youths to stop being used by the elite, especially politicians who like to perpetrate themselves in power.
“Who told you that as youths you are not qualified to lead? It is because you have relegated yourselves. You can never be great except you have passed through some lines of hardship.
“Why are we having youths today who are killing themselves with the ignorance of saying poverty. Every time, it is lack of jobs, poverty that’s why we are killing ourselves. Why don’t we the senior citizens of Nigeria to kill ourselves?
“Why are we using you youths to be killing yourselves and you are so ignorant to the extent. My son is not the chairman of that team, neither the spokes man, because you say you are passing through hardship you will go and kill yourselves.”
In the meantime, NYCN Chairman in Rivers State, Comrade BANI NWISABARI, said insecurity can be tackled through reorientation of the youths and job creation.
“If the government does not think of ways to create jobs for the youths the insecurity we are seeing today is the Genesis. The youths are jobless and a jobless man is an angry man.
“Government should live up to their responsibilities. The only way the insecurity situation in the country can be tackled is through youth empowerment. When the youths are gainfully engaged, they will be occupied with their duties and nobody will be thinking of engaging in illegal activities.
“So let’s be sincere to ourselves for once and say the Truth. I repeat if both the states and the federal government does not live up to their responsibilities, then what we are seeing today is the Genesis.”
