The Rivers State government says it has received consignment of 81,000- doses of Moderna Vaccine for the COVID-19
Speaking to journalists after taken delivery of the vaccine, Commissioner for Health, Professor Princewill Chike, said the ministry will administer it to the public soon.
“Yes we have taken the delivery of the Moderna vaccine for covid-19. This is especially for those that have not taken the second dose of the vaccine, by the special grace of God, very soon the Rivers State Ministry of Health and officials of the Rivers State Health Cares will commence the administration of the vaccine to the public.”
When asked about his take concerning some persons who has taken the first dose of the AstraZeneca, Pfizer and other vaccine, Princewill Chike also said the ministry will take delivery of AstraZeneca, Pfizer and other vaccine, warning that people should not take the different vaccines together, but should rather continue with the first jab they have taken.
“It is not advisable to mix the doses please, if you have taken the other vaccines, please don’t take the Moderna Vaccine for the COVID-19 as your second dose.
“But if you have not taken the first dose before and you want to start with the Moderna Vaccine for the COVID-19 as your first dose, then you have to be consistence with it, there is no point mixing the vaccine please, we must be cleared about this to avoid negative effects.”
He also cautioned that everyone should adhere to the directive of Covid 19 precautions.
“The country is now experiencing the third wave of the virus, I will advise the general public to avoid more spread of the virus, stay safe, adhere to the safety protocol, and report to the Rivers State Ministry of Health if you observe changes in your health.
