Rivers State Commissioner for Health, Prof Chike Princewill has asked members of Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NÀWOJ) in Rivers State to intensify health awareness campaigns.

Health

He gave the charge when the association’ paid him a courtesy visit in his office.

He said NÀWOJ members being mothers are in a better position to educate the women who patronize religious bodies and herbalists in search of healing, adding that some people die of simple sicknesses like diabetes, High blood pressure and even malaria that could have been easily managed.

Regretting the effects of various things women drink on their Kidneys and liver cells to treat cancer he hinted that Gov. Nyesom Wike is passionate about saving lives and has shown so much commitments in the Health Sector.

Prof. Chike also said that Rivers State government is very worried about the cancer incidents in state which is why he is building a Cancer and Cardiovascular diagonistic and treatment center in the state.

He expressed dismay that so many women in the state have died of breast cancer largely because they resorted to drinking concoctions instead of seeking medical help and urged NAWOJ to partner with the ministry in educating women on health issues.

Earlier, the Chairperson of NÀWOJ, Susan Serekàra-Nwikhana told the Commissioner that the association was in his office to intimate him with her discoveries during the two-week breast cancer awareness campaigns in the state.

She further told the Health Boss that so many women in the state are suffering from varying degrees of breast cancer and are unable to access treatments due to poverty and appealed that the ministry to assist those women to access free cancer treatments.

Recall that the Rivers State Commissioner for Health, Professor Princewill Chike had called on the general public to protect the vulnerable in our society by observing all Covid-19 protocols.

He made this assertion in his office today in Port Harcourt during the courtesy visit of the Presidential Steering Committee on Covid-19 Abuja.

Prof Chike decried the manner at which people poses themselves as doctors proffering solutions to Covid treatment in our country, adding that, Research minded people has it that we will soon have a very high incidences of kidney, liver and organ failures because of the level of native concoctions people took within this period in the name of treating Covid-19.

The Commissioner said that the medical training or medical field is not a field of mediocre or where issues of life is based on sentiment but to empathize with humanity on health related issue to save life.

“It baffles me when I hear people say or argue that there is no covid, meanwhile the third wave is ravaging the country with death rate on increase, if care is not taken in Nigeria we may encounter the fourth wave of Covid.”
