The River State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in the 2023 general election, Siminalayi Fubara, has escaped an attempt to arrest him by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The incident happened at the Port Harcourt International Airport on Tuesday night when Fubara, with his entourage, arrived Port Harcourt from Abuja.
Our correspondent gathered that officers of the EFCC had moved to arrest Fubara, but some youths, suspected to be his loyalists, engaged them in a scuffle, resulting to some of the EFCC operatives sustaining injuries.
Recall that the EFCC had declared Fubara, the immediate past Accountant General of Rivers State, and three other top state government officials, wanted over alleged 117 billion naira fraud.

Siminalayi had clinched the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship ticket few days after he was being declared wanted by the EFCC.
Fubara, who is wanted by the anti-graft agency over N435 billion fraud, polled 721 votes to defeat a former Commissioner for Finance in the state, Isaac Kamalu, who scored 86, at the primary election of the party in Port Harcourt.
Fubara, who hails from Opobo Nkoro Local Government Area of the state recently resigned as the state Account-General to focus on his governorship ambition.
