As a way of curbing the problems caused by artisanal refining otherwise known as kpo fire in Rivers State, the police command in the state have attacked and arrested some persons in the state who are involved in the illegal activities of refining and selling adulterated petroleum products in Diobu, Port Harcourt City Local Government Area of the state.
The command’s Public Relations Officer, SP, Nnamdi Omoni who confirmed the development to our correspondent in a telephone interview also disclosed that four people were arrested during the raid which lasted for hours within the Diobu axis of Port Harcourt.
The command’s spokesman further hinted that the action of the police came after intelligent reports from one of the neighbors who leave around the area.
He also pointed at the activities of the illegal refiners as the reasons for the fire incidents in Obio Akpor and Port Harcourt City local governments that have led to loss of lives and properties.
Omoni also warned that the command will stop at nothing to ensure that such activities are brought to an end in the state.
He therefore appeal to members of the public to provide useful information on how to arrest those involved in illegal manufacturing and production of such products and threatened that police officers who compromise in their duties will not be left out of the punishment.
“My message is that members of the public should not be afraid to reports to the police any one they see that involved in this activities, the police will not hesitate to arrest the people and those involved in such act. This way, it will help to restore sanity in the state.”
Our correspondent reports that the Rivers State police command destroyed some shanties around the areas, drums and pots that are used for the business.
