Bukola Saraki has revealed details of discussion, after an extensive meeting with former president Goodluck Jonathan and stalwarts of the Peoples Democratic Party, the PDP.
The former senate president and also chairman of the strategic reconciliation committee of the Peoples Democratic Party, Bukola Saraki, has disclosed that former President Goodluck Jonathan won’t be available for any presidency fielding plans by the ruling All Progressive Congress.
The nation reports that the former senate president made this revelation shortly after a meeting with the party leader and also elder statesman, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan.
This could be explained as a swift move by the PDP to protect the membership of one its highest pillar and one of Nigeria’s most outstanding former presidents, GEJ.
Although President GEJ has been rumoured to be forming close ties with the APC, the former president has openly declared that he is still a member of the PDP.
Saraki however has assured Nigerians and party supporters that the former president Goodluck Jonathan is still a foot soldier of the PDP, he also called on those cajoling Goodluck to cross over to the APC, to end such intentions or aspirations, stating that GEJ remains a core member of the PDP.
We are members of the national reconciliation and strategy committee set up by the party and part of our task is to meet with our former President Dr. Goodluck Jonathan.
We are starting off with our former President and we are here to let him know what our plans are and also to hear his own views and advice on what we need to do and how to do it as well as how we need to strengthen the party and reconcile aggrieved members in order to bring about unity and focus in our party.
Saraki also responding to questions, expressed confidence in Pres. Goodluck’s promise to contribute his wealth of experience and political expertise to ensure PDP rails back to power come 2023.
According to him:
He is also ready to work with the reconciliation committee to play his own role. That is a great step for the party. We have put that behind us.
All those people of the other party that would like to come and disturb our leaders. Our leaders are here and they are ready to work for the party.
It was a very useful meeting. He gave us his views and we are very happy. He reassured all of us of his commitment to the PDP and he told us that he is still ready to offer his time, experience and resources to strengthen the party and that is very strong and important for us. Of course, you know there are funny issues going on but we are leaving this place very happy
Bukola announced the meeting with Former president Goodluck Jonathan yesterday via his social media handle.
Also in another move, Bukola Saraki also paid a courtesy call to former deputy senate president and party chieftain, Senator Ike ekweremadu and senate minority leader, Sen. Enyinnaya Abaribe, it is believed that these meetings are aimed a reconciling underlying differences in preparations to strengthen the party for the forthcoming elections.
