The distinguished Senator representing Akwa Ibom North East Senatorial District, Uyo, Senator Bassey Akpan, has dumped the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
Senator Akpan, who communicated his resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, via a letter to his Ward Chairman, disclosed that he is leaving the party to enable him contest for the governorship of Akwa Ibom State on the platform of another party.
In the letter, Senator Akpan remarked that he was communicating his resignation with what he described as the greatest sense of responsibility, purpose, and love for his people, noting that he has been a loyal and committed member of the Peoples Democratic Party for over 20 years and have by the grace of God contributed positively to the wellbeing of his people as well as the growth and development of his state and nation without any blemish.
He stated that after extensive consultation with his God, family, friends, supporters, and well-meaning believers in a just and equitable Akwa Ibom State across the world, it is obvious that these collective yearnings and aspirations cannot be actualised under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP,.
He said he is guided by the sentiments, concerns and worries of his people, so expressed on the need to take immediate steps for the actualisation of their aspirations and therefore he is compelled to resign his membership of the Peoples Democratic Party forthwith.

He expressed his belief that, as a lawmaker and a distinctive one at that, he must at all time advocate and pursue virtues and values that promote and sustain the effective adherence to the rule of law.
He disclosed that his aspiration is to serve his dear Akwa Ibom State in the office of Executive Governor is not personal or selfish, but rather the collective ambition of his people and based on the principles of justice and equity, to achieve a better and prosperous Akwa Ibom State.
