Becoming better in our day to day activities should be one of our primary goals. It does not cost much to do, it only requires some level of discipline, determination, consistency and sincerity to yourself.
Maintaining a balanced life does not need to be complicated. You also do not have to write down a long note of resolutions. Develop healthy habits and you will discover a positive shift in your life. Although a great deal of patience is required as you may not experience some magical results.
According to holistic health worker, Lyndsie, “When it comes down to it, the most effective way to create a balanced and happy life is to continually focus on building better everyday habits at a sustainable pace”.
Here are seven habits you can develop daily if you have decided to improve your lifestyle. Remember, it starts from making a decision that you want to be better.
Begin your day with gratitude
A popular saying posits that “It is not happiness that brings us gratitude but gratitude that brings us happiness. It is good to wake up with the mind of gratitude to God as a believer, to those around you and for the things you have. Research has it that our brains are wired to be on the look-out for potential threats and negativity. Having a daily gratitude can retrain the brain to always look out for the positive things in a person’s life.
To be deliberate about developing the habit of gratitude, you can write out at least three things you are grateful for.
Learn something new everyday
There are so many things to learn that can improve your life. Be deliberate to learn something new daily, weekly or yearly. You can learn a new language, take online courses, a new skill in baking, musical instrument, sport and a host of others. Learning a new skill would help you to develop a new hobby adding to the already existing hobbies.
‘’Unless you try to do something beyond what you have already mastered, you will never grow’’, a writer, Ralph Waldo Emerson, once said.
Reading a book daily would help you discover new things. Don’t stop being curious to know.
Laugh often
Stephen Hawking said life would be boring if it wasn’t funny.
You look beyond the challenges and laugh. Laugh over the issues. When you mourn over the negativities you are currently experiencing, they would still be there staring at you. But you can choose to convert that negative energy into a positive vibe. Laugh at the troubles because when you do so, you are revitalising your soul.
“Things are inevitably going to go wrong in life, and a lot of times there’s absolutely nothing you can do about it’’, said Lyndsie.
Laughing is good for the soul. Decide not to wallow in misery and find humour in every situation. Laugh with friends, families and even laugh at yourself. Whatever you do, laugh often.
Keep a healthy and well-arranged environment
Another habit you can develop is having a healthy and well arranged environment. You can start by making your bed every morning. Avoid being scattered, instead have your home and office spaces neatly kept. It will create a sense of responsibility and the inspirations to work because you know where to get the things needed for work.
Eat well
The things we eat have a massive impact on our happiness. They can either heal or hurt us. Cultivate the habit of eating well and right. When you are trying to change your eating habit, it may not immediately change but with consistency and focus, it would be achieved
Meditation
You need time for yourself. Outside the busy activities at work, business areas, school or even at home with friends and families. You need time alone to meditate about you and your goals and how to achieve them. You can meditate with scriptures, inspirational quotes or even with songs.
Watch/listen to motivational videos
‘’People often say that motivation doesn’t last long, well, neither does bathing that’s why we recommend it daily’’ — Zig Ziglar, a motivational speaker
Develop the habit of listening to motivational messages. They will inspire you to keep going at those moments when lack of inspiration creeps in.
