Sheik Ahmad Gumi, a renowned Islamic scholar, has accused the military of allegedly benefiting from insurgency.
Sheik made the shocking allegation during an interview with Arise TV. Ahmad said the military does not want terrorism to end in the country because of personal benefits they get from it.
He claimed that some top military officials want the issue of insecurity in the country to persist because of the huge funds they get for trying to salvage the situation.
He further insisted that the bandits are willing to surrender arms if only the Federal Government would grant their request.
“The military are the beneficiaries of this insecurity that breeds in the country.
“I can tell you for sure that the bandits are ready to drop their arms if the federal government will grant their demands such as building schools, hospitals and providing water.
Their complaints are mostly against the military killing innocent people and there is an allegation that the military does not want this chaos to end because of the billions they get from claiming to fight insurgency,” he said.
Gumi, however, commended the police and the Inspector-general of Police for assisting during their visit to meet the bandits.
Meanwhile, Brig Gen Mohammed Yerima, Spokesman of the Nigerian Army, has reacted to the allegations, he said Gumi is entitled to his opinion.
“If a learned man, a respected Islamic scholar can say that, then it’s unfortunate. He is entitled to his opinion but all I can say is that we are sacrificing our lives to protect this nation. We are giving our best to the country.
“Does the Sheik have evidence to back up his claim? Can he prove it? This is unfortunate but that is his opinion and he is entitled to it,” he added.
