Six inmates have voluntarily surrendered themselves back to custody after escaping from a correction facility in Owerri.
The Owerri Custodial Centre was attacked by unknown gunmen on Monday, April 5 and forcefully released a total of 1,844 inmates from custody.
The attackers who stormed the facility at about 02.15hrs on Monday, gained entrance into the yard by using explosives to blast the administrative block.
It was gathered that 35 inmates refused to escape from custody during the jail break.
The acting Comptroller-General of the Nigerian Correctional Service, John Mbrarure confirmed the development.
In a statement signed by Francis Enobore, spokesman of the service, Mbrarure disclosed that about 1,844 inmates have fled from custody.
He added that an extensive investigation has been launched into the incident and begged the good citizens of the state to provide reliable information to help in the re-arrest of the inmates on the run.
