A septuagenarian simply identified as Philip Ajayi, a.k.a Odua, has been allegedly beaten by a yet-to-be identified soldier over N7000.
Niger Delta Connect gathered on Wednesday that the incident happened at No.21 Arakale road, beside Sammy Bus-stop, in Akure last Sunday.
The deceased, who was 69 years old, an electrical rewinder was allegedly beaten by his customer, (Soldier) for not refunding his money after he failed to repair his radio tape on time.
According to one of the deceased neighbours, one Osunyinka Akintokunbo, the deceased was hale and hearty before he was beaten by the said military man.
Akintokunbo explained that she and other neighbours used to see the suspect in military uniform, threatening the deceased over his yet–to–be repaired radio tape.
”On this fateful day, the soldier, as usual approached Odua for the refund of his money, but the deceased explained to him that his work was almost done, remaining the missing cable.
”Despite the deceased explanations, the soldier laid him down and put his leg on the deceased chest. He went ahead to give him a fist blow in his chest”, she explained.
She said the soldier went ahead to dip his hand into the deceased pocket and brought out some money, after which he marched him to the shop of one Pastor, who was a former apprentice to the deceased, where the said missing cable was.
The source said, ”when the deceased came back from Pastor’s shop, he was crying profusely and told us how he was severely beaten.
“He died after vomiting blood on Sunday when he complained of much pain and before they could rush him to the hospital for treatment.
Also, one Bashiru Abu, told our correspondent that the deceased family has been contacted.
Meanwhile, the corpse of the deceased has been deposited at the UNIMED Teaching Hospital mortuary in Akure.
Contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Fumilayo Odunlami confirmed the incident.
She, however, said the police were yet to get the details of the acclaimed soldier to ascertain his real identity, whether he is a real or fake soldier.
Odunlami said the investigation has commenced immediately to know the identity of the soldier and arrest him, so he could face the wrath of the law.
