Founder of Bemore Empowered Initiative and wife of Ondo State governor, Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu has said her happiness would be to see her pet projects outlive the administration of her husband.
She spoke on Monday, September 13 at the Public Service Training Institute, Ilara Mokin Ondo State at the opening ceremony of the 2021 Bemore Summer Bootcamp.
To this end, Anyanwu-Akeredolu charged the people of Ondo State to own the pet projects particularly Bemore which inculcates in the girl-child life-changing skills in renewable energy, Information Communication Technology, arts and design among others.
She noted that the pet projects of most first ladies hardly survive after the exit of their husbands from offices.
Anyanwu-Akeredolu urged the guests to help raise the consciousness of the people of Ondo State to not just support Bemore while she is in office but also afterwards owing to the transformation which its bootcamps were bringing in the lives of its participants.
She emphasized that the boot camps cost a fortune to organize and expressed her profound gratitude to organizations and individuals as well as companies’that support the programme financially and sponsor participants to the boot camps.
She was particularly effusive in her thanks to Ondo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission, OSOPADEC, for supporting the programme in spite of the attacks unleashed on it at the early stage of the programme.
Turning to the participants, she charged them to know that they are a special breed cut out for great exploits.
According to her, Bemore was producing not just new female technology leaders but a breed of girls without greed.
In his speech, the Chairman of the occasion, Hon. Olubunmi Tunji Ojo assured that Bemore would continue after the administration of Gov. Oluwarotimi Akeredolu.
Ojo, who is the Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Niger Delta said those of them that have witnessed the immense transformation which Bemore was bringing in the lives of the girl child would ensure it is perpetuated.
He said; “Bemore will continue to live. The end of Akeredolu government won’t end Bemore. Look at Woclef which was a pet project of a former first lady of the country is today NAPTIP. We will ensure Bemore lives.”
Earlier, in her welcome address, Bemore Welfare Coordinator, Temitope Daniyan disclosed that the organization had trained a total of 1500 girls in such skill set as solar energy, Information Communication Technology, ICT, arts and design, cake baking, production of liquid soaps and perfumes and tying of headgears.
She further disclosed that 350 girls are participating in the 2021 boot camp which is the fourth edition in Ondo State.
Two alumni of the programme, Marvelous Jegede and Ogunsemore Abimbola testified of the great transformation which the boot camp brought to their lives and the exploits they are doing in their world.
According to Jegede, besides building solar panels that power her home, she is today a proud owner of four business concerns which she created from the skill she acquired at the 2018/2019 boot camps.
Abimbola said the boot camp helped her to change her idea of early marriage and inculcated in her website designing skills that today she could design any kind of website.
