Director General of the Bayelsa State Microfinance and Enterprise Development Agency (BYMEDA), Mr. Woyengikuro Daniel has stressed the need for corporate organizations to collaborate with the state government in improving the living standard of Bayelsans and the state economy through the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise (MSME) sector.
He stated this during the agency stakeholder’s meeting at the Transparency Building, Ox-bow Lake Road in Yenagoa.
Mr. Woyengikuro noted that MSMEs are agents of socio-economic change responsible for employment generation and wealth creation, which is why the Senator Douye Diri-led administration initiated different schemes such as DiriBoost to support the sector in line with its prosperity agenda for Bayelsans.
He called on international oil companies, federal government agencies and other corporate organizations operating in Bayelsa to take a cue from the government initiatives and support the MSME sector as part of their corporate social responsibility.
The BYMEDA boss explained that supporting the sector was imperative due to the dwindling federal allocation and financial burden of the state, adding that such assistance would help boost the economy, create jobs for Bayelsans and reduce crimes rate which will in turn create conducive environment for business operations in the state.
The Director General said that BYMEDA is a foremost government agency in-charge of all MSMEs related activities and therefore is open to partner willing investors in the sector.
He disclosed that the agency was currently making contacts with local, national and international organizations to provide facilities such as grants and loans to support MSMEs in the state.
Also speaking, the Secretary, BYMEDA, Mr. Prezigha Fafi, noted that partnership from stakeholders and corporate organization would boost government efforts in improving MSMEs in the state and also transform the lives of Bayelsans as well as facilitate economic growth.
He added that the agency has a DG and Board members, including staff, who are well-experienced in the MSMEs sector, and expressed optimism that with the needed resources and partnership, the business sector would witness massive transformation.
