Authorities of the Cross River State University, have shut down the institution following the gruesome murder of a young man, identified as Ford Moses Nkasi, by suspected cultists on Thursday night.
Nkasi, a graduate of the institution was
murdered in cold blood by the unknown assailants when he attempted to stop them from stealing a smartphone belonging to another student.
According to an eye witness, the deceased met his untimely death when he came back to the school for his final clearance, to enable him proceed for the mandatory National Youth Service (NYSC).
“He ran after the robbers in a bid to reclaim the phone, unknown to him that they were armed, on catching up with the robbers, they stabbed him with a dagger and an axe”, the eye witness said.
It was learnt that efforts to save his life failed as he was pronounced dead, twenty minutes after he was rushed to the hospital by some students.

One of the students disclosed that the late Nkasi was billed to travel to Argentina to further his career in football, after he was recently picked by a scout because of his raw talent in the round leather game.
It was gathered that the incident which took place inside the university premises, near the school administration building, angered the students, which led to a massive riot on Friday morning.
The situation forced the Vice Chancellor of the university, Professor Augustine Angba to announce the suspension of academic activities and the complete closure of the school till further notice, as a way to handle the unrest.
As of the time of filing this report, two of the suspects have been arrested by a gallant team of the school’s security, while one of them managed to escape.
