Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers have reportedly abducted a businessman in Aba, the commercial nerve centre of Abia State.
The victim identified as Mr. Kenechukwu Okeke, is an Indigene of Ogbunike, Oyi Local Government Area of Anambra State, but currently resident in Abia State.
It was gathered that the gunmen numbering four kidnapped the victim at his residence at Umuozuo village in Osisioma Local Government Area of the state.
The gunmen were said to have trailed the victim to his residence and whisked him away while he was waiting for the gate of his house to be opened by family members.
The whereabout of the victim is yet to be ascertained as the kidnappers were yet to contact the Okeke family as at press time.
Meanwhile, residents of the area who spoke on condition of anonymity, told newsmen that kidnapping has been on the increase in the last few months.
They, however, called on security agencies in the state, urging them to ensure that they bring to an end the rising security challenges in the area and the state at large.
In a related development, unknown gunmen on Sunday, kidnapped a senior police officer identified as Clement Amoko, with the Edo State Police Command.
It was gathered that the gunmen broke into the Benin residence of the victim, in the early hours of Sunday when he was with his family and whisked him away.
A source said the abductors had already contacted the family members to demand a huge ransom but the exact figure could not as yet been ascertained.
The police have reportedly commenced operation for the rescue of the officer.
The Edo State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Princewill Osaigbovo, confirmed the incident, saying: “The DPO of Ogida Division just confirmed the incident. An investigation is on to rescue the officer.”
He said the Command is leaving no stone unturned as it has put in place a joint team with various units and other security agencies, which have already been deployed.
