The Executive Chairman of Etche Local Government Area, Hon. Obinna Anyanwu  JP has donated food items as palliatives to the Internally Displaced Persons affected by a recent crude spill from a fallen tanker in Afara Ward 01 community.

AnyanwuHe also assured them of timely resettlement

The tanker-bearing petroleum product fell and spilled its content into several compounds at the Umuokorougwu axis of the Afara-Mba road thereby forcing the residents to vacate their homes for safety.

Emergency officials from the Rivers State Ministry of Special Duties were quick to prevent further havoc at the contaminated areas and averted what could have resulted in a fire disaster following a distress call from the office of the Etche council chairman.

Presenting the donation when he visited the IDP camp at state school in Afara, the chairman said he was saddened by the development which had deprived the people of their shelters and properties for a week.

Anyanwu said the items will serve as a palliative measure for the people affected pending relocation to their homes.

The council chairman while sympathizing with the victims, assured them that he would continue to liaise with the Rivers State ministries of Special Duties and Energy to ensure that they were safely resettled.
