A story was told of a little boy who had a very bad temper, his father after a long thought about what to do concerning the situation, handed him over a bag of nails and told him that every time he looses his temper, he should hammer a nail into the fence.
The first day came, the boy hammered 37 nails. He then gradually began to control his temper over the next few weeks and the number of nails he was hammering into the fence began to decrease slowly. He finally realised that it was easier to control his anger than to hammer those nails into the fence.
A day came when the boy did not loose his temper at all. When His father heard the news. He told the boy to pull out a nail everyday from the ones he hammered, anytime he kept his temper under control.
Days went by and the little boy finally told his father that all the nails were gone. The father took the son by the hand and led him to the fence.
“you have done well, my son, but look at the holes in the fence. The fence will never be the same. When you say things in anger, they leave a scar just like this one. You can put a knife in a man and draw it out. It won’t matter how many times you say I’m sorry, the wound is still there.”
Moral of the story:
It is better to Control one’s anger and be mindful of what you say to people in the heat of the moment. It is best when you remain silent, if not you may eventually say things that you could later regret. Some things in life, you are unable to take back.
