Three persons described as notorious bandits have allegedly embraced peace as they handed over several guns and ammunition to the Zamfara State Government.
The Zamfara State Governor, Bello Matawalle stated that the peace initiated by his administration is functioning as the state has witnessed another laying down of arms.
The arms surrendering occasion took place on Monday at the Government House in Gusau. After giving up their AK-47 rifles and other ammunition on Monday, the bandits had sworn to the Holy Quo’ran not to return to carrying out activities bordering on banditry.
According to reports one of the repentant bandits has stated that they have sincerely accepted the peace initiative of the state government as they pledge not to be involved in criminal activities anymore. One of them who spoke in Hausa at the Government House in Gusau said that they have sincerely accepted the peace initiative of the state government; pledging not to commit dastardly acts any longer.
Speaking further, Governor Bello Matawalle added that his administration will do its very best to end the reign of banditry in the state as it is poised to mop up arms from the bandits.
According to Channels TV reports, the governor, while noting that not all Fulanis are criminals, he argued that some of them were pushed into criminalities.
Matawalle insists that the move is necessary for peace to reign in the state to enable residents go about their lawful businesses.
