A detachment of troops from Sector 3, Operation Hadarin Daji have reportedly foiled deadly attacks on Kabasa and Gidan Goga villages in Zamfara State.
The troops, acting on a tip-off, neutralized scores of bandits, it was gathered.
The swift response of the troops averted what would have been a deadly attack as the armed bandits had reportedly stormed the region, attacking locals.
Sadly though, a soldier was reportedly killed during the attack while three soldiers were said to have suffered varying degrees of injuries in the battle against the bandits.
The Director of Army Public Relations, Brigadier-General Mohammed Yerima, disclosed this in a statement on Friday, March 19.
He noted that the soldiers stormed the village in Magami Local Government Area of Zamfara, following a credible tip-off on Tuesday, while the criminals were attacking the villagers.
The director added that the timely arrival of the troops thwarted the attack by the bandits.
The troops swiftly engaged them in a gun battle and defeated them, thus compelling most of them to flee.
“The timely arrival of troops forestalled a deadly kidnap and plundering operations by armed bandits which was underway.
“They were swiftly engaged by troops who successfully neutralized scores while others escaped into the forest with bullet wounds. Unfortunately one soldier paid the supreme price while, three others who sustained various degrees of injuries during the encounter, are currently receiving medical treatment.
“Troops have dominated the general area with aggressive patrols and have continued further exploitation and pursuit of the bandits into the forest”.
