Troops from Ukraine are gaining more ground against the Russian forces in some areas close to Kyiv, the capital city.

A UK defence analyst said to the news agency that the counterattacking would have to make Russian troops alter war tactics.
Authorities situated in Makariv, west of Kyiv, admitted that the Ukrainian flags were flying there once more.
According to BBC News, Ukrainian troops and volunteers in Voznesensk, a town located in the south, damaged an armoured convoy and forced the Russian forces back.
Reportedly in Kherson, which is near the Crimean peninsula – the first city to fall to Russia in 2014 – Ukrainian troops were found trying to take back the territory.

UK Ministry of Defence estimated however that Russian troops in Ukraine coming from the north and south would attempt to cover Ukrainian troops in the east of Ukraine.
The observation conveyed that Russian forces could take the chance of reorganising before they return to attacking o a large scale.
Justin Bronk, think tank from the Royal United Services Institute, added that the advantage Ukraine gained came as a result of Russia attempting to compensate for the lack of progress in claiming the country.

According to him;
“The Russians have quite visibly failed to take the whole of Ukraine across multiple positions of advance… So now they are trying to pull their resources back and consolidate them and concentrate them on one push at a time – in particular around Mariupol and the south.”
He assesses that what the Ukrainian troop is making to do is to disconnect the Russians’ effort to envolope Kyiv.
Ukrainians succeeding at this would make the Russians retreat to the north evacuating initial positions or could make Russia prepare better by recruiting better fighting operatives.
