Nsukara Offot village, the host community to the University of Uyo, Main campus, Akwa Ibom State has commended the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC for building and donating a 1,050 capacity hostel to the University.
The Chairman of the host community, Tony Etim Ukpe who gave the commendation on Friday after a virtual commissioning of the project by President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday expressed joy that the project has finally been completed.
Ukpe noted that the project was abandoned since 14years ago that the community ceded the land to the University, adding that it was a thing of joy that the project was among the abandoned projects President Buhari mandated for it’s completion.
According to him, “I am very happy that in all the states this kind of project are; Akwa Ibom is the only state that such project has been brought to a completion stage.
“We thank God that this project is commissioned during the time of President Buhari and our son, Senator Godswill Akpabio. That is to show that they have the interest of our people at heart.”
The Chairman also commended the youths of the area for their cooperation with the contractors which had ensured speedy completion of the project.

“I thank the youths of my community for cooperating with the contractors. Had it been they exhibited restiveness or did not listen to the advise of the paramount ruler and be calm, this project wouldn’t have been completed by now”, he said.
Speaking on the existing issue of land encroachment by the University to the community, Ukpe urged the government to play down on perceived personal interest and ensure amicable resolution of the issue for the sustenance of the coexisting relationship.
“My advice is that the system play down on personal interest or self aggrandizement and ensure that the issue is resolved so that we continue benefitting from coexisting relationship and peace that we were enjoying before now”, he added.
