As a way of revamping the economy, a U.S based Accountant, Onyebuchi Okpara, has urged Abians to use the 2023 elections to vote out wrong leaders who do not have their interest at heart.
Speaking with the Press at his home town in Okpuala Umuekwule, Afugiri in Umuahia North Local Government Area of the state, shortly after the grand reception/dedication of an Ultra Modern Civic Hall, built and donated by him, Okpara said most of the problem we suffer today is as a result of wrong leaders elected to man leadership positions.
He said it is time to stop electing wrong leaders.
”Our leaders should stop eating our money, we elect them to represent us and they turn us to beggers. They will want you to worship them before they can give you little stipend to eat.
“Do not vote leaders who do not have your interest at heart, no matter what they promise you. They don’t like you.
“Come 2023, open your eyes, make sure you are making the right choice, put your hand where there is road”, he advised.
Responding to what motivated him to the building of civic centre for his community, Okpara said he basically did what he did because of the love he has for his people.
He said the community has been struggling to build a hall but they couldn’t, so he decided to come into the scene when they made him the Chairman of the Building Committee in 2018.
Okpara disclosed that initially, he promised the community to take the building to lintel level but at a point, the need for a storey building came up, so they started all over again to build and expressed joy the hall was successfully built after three years.
He stated that he ventured into the project because he wanted to put smiles on his people, contribute his quota to his community as well as use it as a means of encouragement to others, so that they can step up.
Okpara thanked God for making the resources available for the completion of the civic hall.
However, he used the opportunity to advise the youth of his community to engage themselves in meaningful ventures, while shun the intake of hard drugs as it could lead to brain damage.
Okpara popularly known as Wasinga, ahead of the 2023 election year, urged Abians to be wise and give their votes to only those who have their interest at heart rather than those who are after stealing from them.
Speaking at the dedication ceremony that took place at the Okpuala Umuekwule Village Square, the Traditional Prime Minister, Chief Chijioke, thanked God for helping the community realize the hall after several years to struggling to build it.
According to the TPM, the best investment anyone can venture into is that of his community development, adding that it makes one get richer.
“When you invest on your people and community, it makes you more blessed. Community investment is the best investment so far”.
He called on his people to seize any opportunity before them to make contributions that are people oriented.
While Commending Onyebuchi Okpara for giving selflessly for the building of the hall, prayed God to continue to bless him.
