The Imo State governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma on Tuesday, January 4 backed out of his promise to name sponsors of insecurity in the state.

He had earlier promised to release the names of the masterminds of the spate of insecurity in the state at the stakeholders’ meeting originally slated for January 3, 2022 but later shifted to January 4.

Our correspondent gathered that the shift in date followed also a shift in venue at the dying minute from Ahiajoku Convention Centre, New Owerri to Government House considered to be secure for the dignitaries that attended the event.

Speaking at the meeting, Gov. Uzodimma however called on the former governor of the state and senator representing Imo West Senatorial district, Rochas Okorocha, to allow him to rule Imo State in peace.

He further said he would allow the security agencies to finish up their investigation on the sponsors of insecurity in the state.

The governor said: “Let us allow the security agencies to finish their investigation and reveal the names of the sponsors of insecurity and they will be arrested.

“The difference between former Governor Okorocha and others who have ruled this state was that he wants to be the governor when he is out of office.

“Okorocha is the only governor that wants to take this state alone for himself. He should allow me to rule this state as the governor, I am his elder brother and I deserve some respect from him. We cannot allow one person to hold this state hostage.”

The governor disclosed that the Owerri-Orlu and Owerri-Okigwe roads would be commissioned in April 2022.

According to him, completing the roads would boost commerce, industry and tourism in the state.

He stated that thereafter the construction of Owerri-Umuahia Road by same contractors Craneburg as well as MCC/Uratta road would commence.

He further disclosed that the original Israeli company that built Imo Modern Poultry, Avutu will be in the state on January 22, 2022 to revamp the facility.

Recall that the Imo Modern Poultry, Avutu was built by the administration of Chief Sam Mbakwe.

Gov. Uzodimma noted successive administrations failed in their promise of resuscitating it.

In his remarks, former governor of the state, Ikedi Ohakim commended Gov. Uzodimma not naming the sponsors of insecurity in the state.

While noting that the world was waiting with bated breath for the unveiling of the sponsors, Ohakim said the sponsors if named would have escaped punishment at the courts.
