A 200-level Political Science student of the Abia State University (ABSU), Uturu, George Nnamdi, who faked his own kidnap has been arrested by the school’s internal security.
Narrating the incidence to newsmen after his arrest, the suspect, Nnamdi said he sent a text message to his friend around 3am, saying that he has been kidnapped by six armed men carrying AK-47 rifles, alongside other three students, just to play pranks on his friend.
George said he didn’t know what came over him, but insisted that he had no criminal intention in engaging in such an act.
Looking remorseful, the suspect, who is also the victim, Nnamdi, pleaded forgiveness for the pains caused the university community as a result of such a childish act.
Also, a friend of the suspect and a 300-level Mass Communication student, Faith Godson, said she also received a text message from George Nnamdi that he has been kidnapped and she immediately alerted the university security, which immediately swung into action and after thorough investigation, arrested Nnamdi, who was hiding in his off-campus lodge.
Reacting to the incident, the Chief Security Officer (CSO) of the Abia State University, Retired Navy Commander ThankGod Evulobi, said they received a distress call that a student has been kidnapped and they swung into action only to discover that Nnamdi faked his own kidnap.
The CSO said the University Senate will take appropriate action against the supposed victim in line with the rules and regulations guiding the university.
As of the time of filing this report, the suspect was still in the custody of the university’s security, while the verdict of the university senate is being awaited .
