Veteran Nollywood actor and broadcaster, Sadiq Abubakar Daba dies after years of fighting illness at the Ayinka General Hospital in Ikeja, Lagos.
Film producer, Kunle Afolayan confirmed his passing, as he got the news from the deceased’s wife.
The actor had serious medical conditions which had lingered for years and had gotten support from Nigerians, including one of the famous billionaires, Femi Otedola, who catered for his treatment abroad.
Daba, who was diagnosed with leukemia and prostrate cancer about four years ago, has finally lost the battle.
On February 3, 2018, Daba joined Project Pink Blue to walk against cancer and at the peak of the COVID-19 lockdown, last year, Daba’s health was said to have deteriorated so badly that he almost lost the use of one of his eyes.
Sadiq Daba was an icon at Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) as a broadcaster and he started his acting career in the 1970’s by featuring in several TV series including “Cock Crow at Dawn” and “October 1st”, which fetched him an award in 2015 as the best actor for his role as ‘Inspector Waziri’.
