Operatives of the Intelligence Response Team (IRT) attached to the office of the Inspector General of Police, have reportedly arrested three kidnap suspects in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital.
The suspects, identified as Micheal Eneji 30, Nwachukwu Emeka 22, and Success 27, were arrested after one of their victims, who reportedly went missing on January 6, 2021, was killed.
It was gathered that the IRT operatives led by Abba Kyari began investigations on the suspects when the family of one of their victims, Victor, lodged a complaint at the Police Unit on January 12.
The suspects confessed they get their victims from dating sites and eventually rob them of their money, valuables, and other personal belongings, reports Port Harcourt Specials.
According to reports, the style of operation of the criminal gang basically is to pretend to be ladies searching for lovers on dating site and eventually lure them to a lonely spot, where they would rob them of their valuables.
The criminals have however confessed to their crimes, including murdering Victor on the day of the kidnap and led the operatives to Old Onne Road, Rivers State.
The leader of the gang Eneji, a native of Gakem community in Cross River State in his confession said he has been into kidnapping since 2011 after his degree programme in Business Administration.
He confessed to portraying himself as a naval officer to his victims in order to cover his tracks. He also said he had been arrested on two previous occasions on the grounds of kidnap, theft and murder.
Meanwhile the Divisional Police Officer in charge of the area, SP Chukwuma Emeka, reportedly recovered Victor’s corpse and deposited it at Okrika General Hospital Mortuary on January 7, after the complaint of the deceased’s family.
Items recovered from the criminals include, One Ak-47 rifle and three magazines loaded with 18 rounds of live ammunition.
