Samia Suluhu Hassan was the former Vice President of Tanzania before she was sworn-in as president on Friday, March 19, 2021.
She was born on January 27, 1960, which makes her 61 years old.
Fondly called Mama Samia Suluhu Hassan, she is from the semi -autonomous region of Zanzibar, which has about 99% of the Muslim population.
She studied statistics at Zanzibar Institute of Financial Administration and later graduated from Mzumbe University in 1986 with Advanced Diploma in Public Administration.
She also attended University of Manchester, where she had her postgraduate diploma in Economics in 1994.
In 2015, she became the vice president, making her the first female vice -president to occupy that position in her country.
She has also acted as the Minister of State which was under the office of the Vice President.
Apart from this position, Samia Suluhu Hassan has also served in different capacities in the government of Zanzibar.
BBC pidgin reported that some Tanzanian political analysts, supporters of Magufuli and Christian nationalists were not in support of her being elevated to the exalted office of President of Tanzania.
President Samia Suluhu Hassan in 1978 got married to Hafidh Amer and the marriage is blessed with a daughter, Nwanu Hafidh Ameir and three sons.
Her daughter, Nwanu Hafidh Ameir is the only one who followed her mother’s footsteps as she is a member of the Zanzibar House of Representatives.
