Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike has called for peace in the country to ensure stability and growth in Nigeria.
The Governor stated this in a statement signed by his Special Assistant Media, Kelvin Ebiri
He urged Muslims to always emulate the life style of Prophet Mohammed, stressing that Mohammed symbolised peace and tolerance.
Governor Wike requested for peace and wisdom in solving the challenges facing the nation, particularly the insecurity in Nigeria urging Muslim faithful in the state to remain peaceful as they join their counterparts all over the world to celebrate Eid el-Kabir.
Wike in the statement also congratulated Muslims faithful’s on the Eid el-kabir celebration.
The Rivers State Governor however, wished all Muslim faithful across the country happy Eld el-Kabir celebration.
Governor wike, who reminded Muslims of the significance of the celebration which is selfless sacrifice, total commitment and loyalty, enjoined them to first consider the interest of the nation before any other.
According to the Rivers State governor, the state government will continue to protect the rights of every citizen in the state and also guarantee the freedom of worship and association as enshrined in the constitution.
Recall that the Federal Government had declared Monday and Tuesday as public holidays to mark Eid-el-Kabir celebration.
A statement by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Interior, Shuaib Belgore, yesterday, in Abuja, said the Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, who made the declaration on behalf of the Federal Government, congratulated all Muslims and Nigerians both at home and in the diaspora on the occasion.
“I call on Muslims to continue to imbibe the spirit of love, peace, kindness and sacrifice, as exemplified by Prophet Muhammad.
“We should also use the period to pray for peace, unity, prosperity and the stability of the country, considering the challenges of insecurity we face at the moment”, Aregbesola said.
The minister assured Nigerians of President Muhammadu Buhari’s commitment to the security of lives and property of all.
