Wike Urges FG to Fix Federal Roads in Rivers

Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike has called on federal government to fix all federal roads that are deplorable in the state in other to have a smooth ride during and after the Ember month.

WikeGovernor Wike who made this known during 2021 Ember month, Road safety campaign rally/flag off organized by Federal Road Safety Corps, Rivers State command in Port Harcourt.

Wike who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Governors Cabinet, George Nweke said the theme of the programme has pointed to the giant strive infrastructure been done by the state government.

“This years is remarkable for the Rivers State government. The state government has achieved so much in terms of road infrastructures and other development.

“So it is the thought of the Rivers State governor, Nyesom Wike that the federal government will join the trend to fix all federal road in the state.”

Wike called for inter agencies cooperation in realizing the said objective in saving lives.

On his path, the Zonal commanding Officer Zone 6 Rivers State Headquarters, Assistant Corp Marshal Chidiebere Nkwnta encouraged Rivers people to avoid night travelling as part of risk during the festive period.

Earlier in his speech, Sector commander River State command, Corp Commander Salisu Galadunci disabuse the minds of road users that ember month is associated with witchcraft and encouraged travelers to apply common sense in driving.

Also speaking, the Director National Orientation Agencies, Ayo Tamuno assured that as an enlightenment agency, the news of the celebration will reach all communities in Rivers State with local government coordinators and warned everyone to be safety conscious while driving.

He said the theme of the inauguration is apt going by the giant infrastructures experienced in the state; drivers will tend to speed and cautioned, he added.

Our correspondent reports that the theme for the flag off is: ‘Maintain A Safe Speed, Avoid Night Travel And Enjoy Quality Road Experience’.
