A Federal High Court sitting in Calabar, Cross River State has jailed a 22-year-old woman, Blessing Okon Etim, for stealing and selling a baby in Calabar.
The convict was charged with one count under the provisions of Section 21 of TIPPEA Act, 2015.
Delivering her judgement on Tuesday, June 7, 2022, Hon. Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu found the defendant guilty as charged and sentenced her to 5 years imprisonment or option of Two Million Naira.
The court further held that should the five months old baby sold to the unknown buyer be found, the sentence shall be reduced to 3 years or option of Two Million Naira.
Meanwhile, the Federal High Court sitting in Calabar, Cross River State had earlier jailed a 35-year-old woman, Glory Asuquo for trafficking and using children for alms begging on the streets on Calabar.

Asuquo, who hails from Akwa Ibom State, was sentenced to six months imprisonment on Tuesday, June 6 for contravening the human trafficking laws as contained in TIPPEA, 2015.
The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) in a statement on Wednesday, June 8, said Asuquo was arrested for using children to beg for alms on the streets of Calabar, the Cross River state capital.
In other news, the anti-graft agency, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has secured the conviction and sentencing of three internet fraudsters also in Calabar, the Cross River State capital.
The agency disclosed this in a release statement. It reads: “The Uyo Zonal Command of the EFCC has secured the conviction and sentencing of three internet fraudsters: Emmanuel James Olayi, Okadigbo Gabriel Nzubechukwu, and Emmanuel Nnoli before Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu of the Federal High Court sitting in Calabar, Cross River State.
They were convicted on Thursday, June 2, 2022, after pleading guilty to one-count separate charges bordering on Impersonation and other internet crimes.
