Hassan was sentenced to prison on Tuesday, September 21, after a Yola Criminal Area Court 2 found him guilty. Bala was arrested in Yola on Monday, September 19, during a crime prevention patrol led by Inspector Ishaya Buba of the Jimeta Police Division, and was charged with dry leaves suspected to be indian hemp found in his custody, according to court order.
After being taken to the divisional police headquarters for further investigation after giving an unsatisfactory account, he insulted all the cops, claiming that they are all thieves.
Bala allegedly stated in a First Information Report (FIR) filed in court by Inspector Danjuma Hamidu that he would rather die than join the Nigeria Police Force because police officers are criminals.
After admitting calling police officers thieves on Tuesday September 21, the Judge, Hon Nuhu Musa Garta sentenced him to two years in prison but gave him an option of a N50,000 fine.
