Abia LG Election: S'East IPAC Chairman Calls For Neutrality

As Abia State prepares for its Local Government election tomorrow, the South East chairman of the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), Prince Emeka Okafor, has advocated for fair play in the Abia LG Polls.

In an interview with Newsmen in Umuahia, the South East IPAC chairman disclosed that in this era of democracy, parties should be given equal opportunities to participate in the polls.

Okafor stated that even though it's normal in Nigeria politics for the sitting Governor to win all seats in the Local Government election, said it won't be out of place if other parties are given the opportunity to produce councilors.

According to him, it will not only disclose how responsive the Governor is to the yearnings of the people, but would go further to empower politicians that are not in the ruling party.

He stated that empowering individuals through politics can have a ripple effect, fostering an environment where everyone has a stake in shaping their community's future and encouraging diverse perspectives in governance to ensure that all segments of society are represented.

Prince Okafor further emphasized that politics could be a powerful tool for empowerment, beyond just job creation, urging the Governor to open up the local government system to other parties, highlighting it as a fundamental aspect of democracy.

Okafor equally advised that the political system in Abia should be free from acrimony, advocating for inclusivity and diversity in governance, that allows various political voices to contribute to decision-making processes. "We should shun politics of bitterness in Abia. Let's embrace a system where political parties can come together to exchange ideas that can help reposition the state", he said.

However, he implored the electoral body in Abia,to maintain neutrality, giving every party a level playing ground to participate in the Local Government election, while expressing optimism that the election would help reawake government consciousness in grassroot development.

Meanwhile, he stressed the need for the Governor of the State, Dr Alex Otti, to bring on board, Abians that have administrative ideas , particularly in public administration into his cabinet, regardless of their party affiliations, expressing its importance in the success of his administration.
