The Oloibiri Museum and Research Centre (OMRC) has been hailed as a transformative project that will bring significant benefits to the people of Bayelsa State and Nigeria as a whole, providing opportunities for economic empowerment, historical preservation, and job creation.

The Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) on Thursday executed the construction contract with Julius Berger PLC for the Oloibiri Museum and Research Centre (OMRC), Otuabagi, Bayelsa State. The Executive Secretary NCDMB, Engr. Felix Omatsola Ogbe executed the contract at the Board’s liaison office in Abuja.

Ambassador Madock O. Joshua, the Vice Chairman of the Bayelsa State East Zone of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), described the project as a turning point for the state’s development.

In a statement on Friday made available to newsmen, Ambassador Madock commended the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) and its partners for their visionary approach to the project.

He praised the leadership of the Executive Secretary of NCDMB, Engr. Felix Omatsola Ogbe, for driving the project forward, noting that its completion will not only preserve Oloibiri’s legacy as the birthplace of Nigeria’s oil industry but also catalyze economic activities in the region.

“The OMRC is a transformative milestone that holds immense historical and economic significance for Bayelsa State and Nigeria. It will provide a platform for research, tourism, and skill development while creating jobs and boosting local businesses,” Ambassador Madock stated.

He further pledged his commitment as a stakeholder to supervising the progress of the project, ensuring its execution meets the highest standards. He expressed optimism that the OMRC will enhance Bayelsa’s role in Nigeria’s oil and gas history while driving long-term socio-economic growth for its people.

The groundbreaking ceremony for the OMRC was held in February 2023, and the project is being developed by the Petroleum Development Technology Fund (PTDF), NCDMB, Shell Petroleum Development Company/Nigerian National Petroleum Company Ltd, and the Bayelsa State Government. The initiative is expected to position Bayelsa as a hub for energy-related research, tourism, and innovation, benefiting the local economy and creating opportunities for young professionals.
