The Minister of Defense, Badaru Abubakar, has directed the troops of the 17 Brigade in Katsina to tackle the ongoing insecurity affecting Katsina State. He emphasized that President Bola Tinubu is prepared to provide all necessary resources to eradicate these security issues.
Badaru made this statement while addressing the media in Gurbin Baure, a border town between Katsina and Zamfara States, on Friday, where he spoke to the 17 Brigade troops.
According to reports, the defence minister's visit is aimed to assess and receive updates on the military's current efforts against banditry.
Earlier, Abubakar conveyed that President Tinubu is pleased with the advancements made by the troops in the fight against banditry in recent months, acknowledging the improvements in operations within the state.
“President Tinubu has asked me to thank you and to also encourage you to do more in ending insecurity in these operational areas.
“He is ready to supply everything you need to eliminate insecurity.
“Are you ready to finish them off? Are you ready to end banditry? Soon?” Badaru asked.
While speaking to newsmen, the Minister of Defense said: “For the last few months there has been progress every day and I believe that all the states are cooperating in ending banditry in the North-West. We need a lot of support from the general public.
“I came by road to assess our deployment there. Zaria-Gusau Road has been very notorious for kidnappers. We have re-strategized and improved our deployment there and I am impressed with what I see in ending consistent attacks of motorists in the area.
“And from Gusau-Jibia and Katsina, is also another road being attacked regularly and I plied it today and we agreed on what to do to stop the attack which the troops are doing.”
Furthermore, the minister was joined by Major General Oluyinka Soyele, Commander of the Joint Task Force North-West Operation Fansar Yamma, and was welcomed by Brigadier General B.O. Omopariola, Commander of the 17 Brigade in Katsina State.
