Ahead of Sunday's Match Day 2 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) clash against Kano Pillars, Bayelsa State Commissioner for Sports Development, Daniel Igali has called on Bayelsans to troop out en-masse to cheer their darling team to victory.
In a statement he personally signed, and made available to the press on Sunday, September 15, 2024, Daniel Igali said Bayelsa United needs all the support it can get in ensuring victory.
Igali said it would be a massive boost to the morale and confidence of the players if Bayelsans trooped out in their numbers to support the team.
Recalling the defeat Bayelsa United suffered in the hands of Sunshine Stars at Ijebu Ode last weekend, the sports commissioner said the players would be needing the backing of Bayelsans if they must bounce back to reckoning.
He charged the players to put up a five-star performance against Kano Pillars to secure the maximum three points, adding that, that was the only way the players can make up for their loss at Ijebu Ode.
The former World and Olympic champion, Igali, further charged the players to ensure they win all their home games and equally pick up vital away points if the team must achieve its dreams for the season.
Speaking ahead of the game coming up at the Samson Siasia Stadium, Yenagoa at exactly 4.00p.m. on Sunday, September 15, 2024, Technical Adviser, Ladan Bosso, says he is confident of victory against Kano Pillars.
The gaffer said his boys have put last week's defeat against Sunshine Stars behind them and are focused on the match against Kano Pillars F.C.
Describing last week's loss away to Sunshine Stars as just a "temporary setback", Bosso believes that the team can still win the league.
He called on United fans and the people of Bayelsa not to relent in their support for the team, stressing that he is optimistic of victory on Sunday.
The Prosperity Boys, as Bayelsa United players are fondly called, will seek to atone for their wide-margin loss to Sunshine Stars in Matchday 1.
Meanwhile, Bayelsa United's opponents in today's clash are no push-over. Kano Pillars are four-time Nigerian Premier Football League champions.
However, head to head against Bayelsa United, the Yenagoa-based club has the advantage. Bayelsa United have won six times and drawn four times in their last 14 meetings, leaving Kano Pillars with four victories.
Last season, Bayelsa United beat Kano Pillars 2-1 at home, with goals from John Bassey and a late minute goal from Elvis Ori.
Bayelsa United currently occupy 19th position on the NPFL log with 0-point but stand a huge chance of making significant improvement in their fortunes if they win today.
