President Bola Tinubu and the Federal Executive Council (FEC) have officially dissolved the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs and the Ministry of Sports Development.
This decision was made during the FEC meeting held in Abuja on Tuesday, as announced by the Special Adviser on Information and Strategy to the President, Bayo Onanuga, via a statement released on Wednesday.
The statement confirmed the establishment of a new Ministry of Regional Development, which will now oversee all regional development commissions, including the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), North West Development Commission, South West Development Commission, and North East Development Commission.
Regarding sports administration, the statement also disclosed that the National Sports Commission would assume the responsibilities previously handled by the Ministry of Sports Development, effectively taking charge of all sports-related matters in the country.
Furthermore, the FEC approved the merger of the Ministry of Tourism with the Ministry of Culture and Creative Economy, forming a consolidated entity to streamline the management of tourism, culture, and the creative sectors in Nigeria.
