Build Society, Do not Destroy It, Gov Fubara Urges Citizens

Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has emphasized the importance of leading a life that contributes positively to society rather than one that causes harm. The governor made this statement on Saturday in Luuwa Community, Khana Local Government Area, during the funeral service for Late Mrs. Erefori Basi Maeba, mother of Senator Lee Maeba, a former representative of Rivers South-East Senatorial District.

Governor Fubara urged attendees to reflect on the values of respect, honor, and meaningful relationships, particularly with family members while they are alive.

"We are here to celebrate Mama and bid her farewell. But to the Maeba family, I ask, while she was alive, did you maintain a strong relationship with her? Did you honor and respect her enough to heed her counsel, even in times of disagreement? It is not enough to celebrate our loved ones in death; the true test is how we treat them in life," the governor said.

Governor Fubara expressed confidence that Late Mrs. Maeba lived a life that commanded respect and left a legacy of unity in her family. He noted, "The word of God tells us it is more honorable to be in the house of mourning than feasting. I am here today not because I am happy about Mama’s passing but because I am proud to witness the celebration of a life well-lived."

He urged the audience to focus on living fulfilled lives that positively impact others, emphasizing that it is not the length of years but the value added to society that truly matters.

"What matters most is not how long we live, but how many lives we touch and the positive changes we create during our time on earth," he said, calling on everyone to be agents of progress and unity in their families and society at large.

Addressing the crowd, Governor Fubara said, "The government of Rivers State remains committed to prioritizing the interests of our people. We will honor the trust and mandate you have given us by delivering on our promises and making you proud."

He also thanked all guests, dignitaries, and elders who gathered to support the Maeba family, adding, "God will meet you all at your points of need."

The governor concluded with a prayerful tribute to the late Mrs. Maeba, expressing hope that she rests peacefully in eternal glory.
