Dangote Slashes Fuel Price To N899.50 Per Liter

As Nigeria approaches the festive season, Dangote Petroleum Refinery has made a strategic move to alleviate transport costs for Nigerians by reducing the price of its Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) to N899.50 per litre.

The announcement was made by the company's Chief Branding and Communications Officer, Anthony Chiejina, on Thursday, December 19, 2024.

This price reduction comes as part of Dangote Refinery's ongoing commitment to providing affordable fuel, with the latest adjustment aimed at giving consumers much-needed financial relief during the holidays.

Previously, the refinery had lowered its PMS price to N970 per litre on November 24, but the current adjustment marks a further reduction to make transportation more accessible to Nigerians during this busy period.

Chiejina explained that the new price reflects the refinery's ongoing effort to ease the financial burden on consumers as they navigate increased travel and logistics costs during the festive season.

"In addition to lowering the price, we are introducing a special offer for customers to further ease their holiday expenses," Chiejina said.

The new offer includes a unique credit scheme which states that, ‘for every liter of fuel purchased on a cash basis, customers will be able to buy an additional liter on credit’.

This credit is backed by a bank guarantee from major Nigerian banks; Access Bank, First Bank, and Zenith Bank, to further ease the pressure on consumers at a time when financial flexibility is key.

Highlighting the significance of this initiative, Chiejina underscored Dangote Refinery’s commitment to improving fuel quality and availability in Nigeria.

"This move ensures that Nigerians continue to have access to premium, environmentally-friendly, and engine-safe fuel at competitive prices, while also contributing to reducing the reliance on substandard imported products," he added.

The Dangote Refinery, which holds the title of the world’s largest single-train refinery with a capacity of 650,000 barrels per day (BPD), is now capable of meeting 100% of Nigeria’s refined petroleum needs, with excess production earmarked for export.

This self-sufficiency represents a significant leap for Nigeria, once plagued by substandard imported fuels, marking a turning point in the country’s petroleum industry.
