Edo Election 2024: Voting Ongoing As NEC uploads 90.33% of results on IREV

The Independent National Electoral Commission has uploaded 90.33 percent of the results from the Edo governorship election to its Result Viewing Portal.


Results from 4,082 out of the 4,519 polling units where elections were held in the state have been successfully transmitted on the portal.


This update provides a snapshot of the election's progress, with more results expected to be uploaded soon.

Breakdown:

- Total polling units: 4,519


- Results uploaded: 3,375 (74.68%)


- Pending results: 1,144 (25.32%)



Results started rolling in from the polling units in the Edo State governorship election as the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are locked in a tight contest.


Initial reports from Oredo Ward polling units indicate a close contest between the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), with the Labour Party trailing behind.

Governorship election began today, 21 September, 2024 in Edo State and elegible voters went to cast their votes for their choice candidates. 


To perform his civic right, the Governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki on Saturday cast his vote in the ongoing election.

Obaseki arrived early at polling unit 19, Ward 4, Oredo, located inside Emokpae Primary School, Benin City, the state capital to cast his vote.


The governor expressed his satisfaction with the voting process so far. He also stated that he is optimistic that the collation of votes by Inec officials would also be seamless.


Similarly, The candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Asue Ighodalo, also exercised his Franchise at his voting centre, Okaigben Ward 1, Unit 3, situated in Idinrio Primary School, Okaigben, Ewohimi, Esan South East Local Government Area of Edo State.


Earlier today, The Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) condemned the arrest of voters in the ongoing Edo State 2024 gubernatorial Election.

The political party also demanded for the immediate and unconditional release of arrested voters, including its members and supporters who were illegally detained by security operatives.


The party said this in a statement which claimed that the arrest was part of a well thought out plan by the All Progressives Congress(APC) who are conspiring with certain compromised police officials to harass, intimidate and suppress Edo people.

It was also gathered that the election was characterised by vote buying as 8 suspects were arrested by the police .
