Eno, Udom Charge Parents on Quality Parenting

The importance of parental involvement in children's cognitive development and learning was highlighted at the launch of 'True Parenting: Lessons from my Catechist Father', a book authored by Emmanuel Akpabio, media aide to the Governor.

SSA to the Gov on research and Documentation, Dr Essien Ndueso, said, Parents must not abdicate their role of responsible upbringing of their children, to make them useful to themselves and the larger society, “today's event is not just a book launch, but another reminder to us as parents , that we owe the society a critical responsibility of moulding responsible children".

In his remarks, Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, said that if that foundation is faulty, chances are that whatever may be built upon it could be wobbly, and called on the church and other agents of socialization to complement the role of the family in raising children the society could rely on.

“The book is a message to us to be ashamed of ourselves when we miss it and allow irresponsible children to come out of our homes.

“On our part as a government, we believe we should provide the necessary environment for the children to develop their potentials through education. That is why education has formed a cardinal point in our ARISE Agenda”, the Governor said, adding that, “the development of every society is directly proportional to its investment in education and allied sectors.”

He congratulated the mother of the author, Madam Maria Akpabio on her 75th birthday and prayed God to grant her more years in strength and health.

On his part, immediate past Governor Udom Emmanuel, whose message was also delivered by Dr Essien Ndueso, warned parents against relinquishing their role to secondary parties, as the home is the primary agent for character formulation and development of the child.

The Former Governor, whose parents are renowned as strict disciplinarians, insisted that where children end up as deviants in the society, the parents do not only owe the society explanation, but would also be judged by God for dereliction of their duties.

House of Representatives Member for Ikot Ekpene, Barr Patrick Umoh, former federal lawmaker, Aniekan Umanah, House of Assembly member, Sampson Idiong, Chairman of Maintain Peace Movement, Emmanuel Enoidem, Commissioner for Education, Idongesit Etiebet, Chairmen of Nsit Atai and Oruk Anam local government areas, among other guests.
