The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has issued a weather outlook predicting thunderstorms across the country from Monday, September 23, to Wednesday, September 25, 2024. According to the forecast, morning thunderstorms are expected in parts of Sokoto, Kebbi, and Borno States on Monday, while other areas, including Borno, Yobe, Jigawa, Taraba, Adamawa, Gombe, Bauchi, Kano, Katsina, Kaduna, Zamfara, Kebbi, and Sokoto, will experience thunderstorms later in the day.
In the Federal Capital Territory, Niger, Nasarawa, Benue, Plateau, and Kwara states, thunderstorms are anticipated during morning hours. Isolated thunderstorms are expected in Kwara, the Federal Capital Territory, Niger, Benue, and Kogi states in the afternoon and evening periods. The statement added, “Thunderstorms are anticipated over parts of the Federal Capital Territory, Niger, Nasarawa, Benue, Plateau and Kwara states during the morning hours.
“In the afternoon and evening periods, isolated thunderstorms are expected over parts of Kwara, the Federal Capital Territory, Niger, Benue and Kogi states.”
Residents of southwest inland states, including Oyo, Ondo, Osun, Ekiti, and Ogun, as well as coastal states like Lagos, Delta, Rivers, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, and Bayelsa, can expect rains during morning hours. Thunderstorms are also forecasted for parts of Enugu, Edo, Ebonyi, Ondo, Abia, Osun, Imo, Ekiti, Delta, Bayelsa, Cross River, Rivers, and Lagos later in the day.
“Rains are envisaged over the southwest inland, especially parts of Oyo, Ondo, Osun, Ekiti and Ogun extending to the coastal states of Lagos, Delta, Rivers, Cross River, Akwa Ibom and Bayelsa states during the morning hours, “it said.
Additionally, morning rains are predicted for Enugu, Ebonyi, Abia, Imo, Lagos, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom, Cross River, and Rivers, with cloudy conditions prevailing in the remaining southern regions.
“Morning rains are envisaged over parts of Enugu, Ebonyi, Abia, Imo, Lagos, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom, Cross River and Rivers States while the remaining parts of the South should be cloudy.”
NiMet has advised residents to steer clear of flood-prone areas and adhere to safety guidelines from relevant authorities. The agency also urges the public and airline operators to consult NiMet's website, for up-to-date weather reports and forecasts to inform their plans.
