Forgiveness is Not Memory Loss, Suleman Reacts to Halima's Apology

The founder of Omega Fire Ministries, Apostle Johnson Suleman, on Wednesday responded to the public apology from Nollywood actress, Halima Abubakar, for defamation.

In his response, Suleman emphasized that forgiveness does not equate to forgetting, urging people to cease contacting him on phone about the matter.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Suleman wrote, "You all stop calling my phone. Forgiveness is not memory loss. Status quo maintained!"

The Cleric's reaction is coming shortly after Abubakar publicly apologized for spreading false information about the clergyman, acknowledging that her actions had caused him significant emotional distress.

Recall that the controversial conflict between them began in 2022 when the actress became seriously ill, an event she linked to her fallout with Apostle Suleman.

During her illness, Abubakar's family took to social media, accusing the clergyman of having a role in her suffering and demanding that he keeps his distance from her. Despite these claims, there were widespread speculations that the actress was suffering from an autoimmune disease, which she refuted by sharing her medical reports at the time.

In a letter addressed to Apostle Suleman, Abubakar expressed deep remorse for tarnishing his reputation, marking a significant turn in the long-running dispute.

The actress had previously accused the pastor of defaulting on a promise to marry her and claimed he had inflicted a serious illness on her, which led to years of hardship.

These allegations prompted Apostle Suleman to file a defamation lawsuit against Abubakar in January 2023, demanding N1 billion in compensation for damages to his reputation and ministry.

In April 2024, the Federal Capital Territory High Court in Abuja ruled in favor of Suleman, ordering Abubakar to pay N10 million in damages. Her public apology followed shortly after the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) indefinitely suspended her on October 18, 2024, for her involvement in spreading slanderous information about members, associates, and prominent individuals linked to the industry.
