Gov Diri Leads Bayelsans At 13th State Thanksgiving

Bayelsa Governor Senator Douye Diri and his wife, Dr. (Mrs.) Gloria Diri, led thousands of Bayelsans in an inspiring Annual Thanksgiving Service at the Ecumenical Centre in Igbogene, Yenagoa, today. This year’s event, marking its 13th edition, brought together a remarkable array of dignitaries and citizens to celebrate peace, unity, and development within the state.

In his stirring address, Governor Diri emphasized the reasons for celebration, focusing on the enduring peace and security enjoyed in Bayelsa. “We have every reason to thank God,” he proclaimed, drawing enthusiastic applause from the gathered crowd. “What about the peace and security we enjoy in this State? This is a direct result of your unwavering support, which enables us to continue our work for the people.”

Addressing pressing concerns, particularly the ongoing blackout in Yenagoa, the Governor reassured citizens of his administration’s commitment to improving electricity supply. He revealed that steps are being taken to repair vandalized transmission towers in Ahoada and announced investments in new gas turbines aimed at enhancing electricity distribution across the state. “We are working tirelessly to ensure that all Bayelsans have reliable power supply,” he affirmed.

The Thanksgiving Service featured the esteemed Apostle David Zilly-Aggrey of the Royal House of Grace International as the guest minister, who delivered an uplifting message that resonated deeply with attendees.

The event was graced by a distinguished lineup of guests, including Deputy Governor Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, former Governor Senator Henry Seriake Dickson, and notable figures such as Dame Patience Jonathan, the wife of former President Goodluck Jonathan. The assembly also included members of the National Assembly, state legislators, former governors, and traditional rulers, showcasing a united front of leadership and community spirit.

Among those present were influential business leaders, civil service heads, and various members of the People's Democratic Party (PDP), reflecting the diverse fabric of Bayelsan society. The presence of prominent traditional rulers and religious leaders underscored the importance of unity and collaboration in fostering progress within the state.

The Annual Thanksgiving Service, a tradition established in 2012 by former Governor Dickson, serves as a poignant reminder of the resilience and strength of Bayelsa. As the congregation joined in song and prayer, the collective message was clear: together, Bayelsans can overcome challenges and continue to build a brighter future.

Governor Diri concluded his remarks with a heartfelt appeal for continued support and collaboration among all citizens. “Let us work hand in hand for the growth and development of our beloved Bayelsa,” he urged, reinforcing the spirit of togetherness that permeated the event.
