Gov Diri Urges Christians to Support the Needy at Christmas

Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, has called on Christians and privileged individuals to extend a helping hand to the less fortunate during the Christmas season, emphasizing the importance of sharing and selflessness in celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ.

This was disclosed by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Daniel Alabrah in a Statement on 25 December 2024.

Governor Diri made this appeal at the 2024 Christmas Carol of Nine Lessons held at the DSP Alamieyeseigha Banquet Hall in Yenagoa.

The event, a vibrant gathering of worshippers from various sectors of the state, served as a platform for the governor to stress the essence of Christmas as a time for love, generosity, and sacrifice.

Addressing the audience, Senator Diri urged public officials and citizens in privileged positions to share their resources with those in need, particularly during these challenging economic times.

The governor highlighted that such acts of kindness could alleviate hunger and hardship for many families during the festive season.

“Christmas reminds us of the selfless love and sacrifice of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ,”

Diri said. “Despite the economic challenges in the country, I believe everyone can have something to eat this season if we all share, even from the little we have.

For those in government, please extend your hands of generosity to those who do not have.”

The governor emphasised the ripple effect of generosity, noting that with over 5,000 appointees in the state government, each act of giving could significantly impact the lives of Bayelsans.

“If all appointees open their hands to share, 80-90% of Bayelsans will have something to celebrate this Christmas,” he added.

Governor Diri also called on residents to use the festive period as a time for reflection and gratitude, urging them to appreciate God’s blessings in their lives and the progress of Bayelsa State.

The carol service featured melodious performances by choristers from the state executive council, legislature, judiciary, civil service, and the Bayelsa State Mass Choir.

The event was marked by a spirit of unity and celebration, showcasing the rich cultural and spiritual heritage of the state.

Christmas is an annual celebrations by the Christian faith usually celebrated on December 25 to mark the birth of Jesus Christ.
