Abia State Government has sacked the Vice Chancellor of Abia State University, Uturu, Prof. Onyemachi Ogbulu and other principal officials of the university.
This was disclosed and made available to the public by the Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, in Umuahia today, Monday, the 28th of October, 2024, during a briefing with newsmen on the outcome of this week’s Executive Council meeting, chaired by Governor Alex Otti.
The Governor,Alex Otti, announced Prof. Ndukwe Okeudo as the new Vice Chancellor.
“Rt. Hon. Agwu U. Agwu is the new Pro-Chancellor, Prof. Catherine Uju Ifejika is the new Chancellor, and Onwubiko Dike is a member of the Governing Council" Prince Kanu stated.
Others appointed include new DVCs, members of the congregation, convocation, ministry of education amongst others.
In the statement he said : “Appointment of new DVCs, 4 members of the Senate: 2 members of the congregation, 1 member of Convocation, I member from Ministry of Education, and an appointment of a new Bursar, while the appointments take effect from November 1, 2024"
The commissioner stated that, this recent appointments is as a result of the fallout of the ABSU visitation panel report as approved for release and publication on Saturday, October 26, 2024.
The panel report set up by the government had earlier recommended that the former VC should be investigated over his “traditional title and Payroll admission”, among other reasons not yet mentioned.
Looking at the report released, it also stated that there was withdrawal of the M.Phil certificate and the termination of the PhD programme of the former Bursar, Mr Chucks Chikwendu Nwaogwugwu, as a result of the irregularities in his admission process.
“The panel also recommended the withdrawal of the M.Phil certificate and the termination of the PhD programme of the former Bursar, Mr Chucks Chikwendu Nwaogwugwu, due to the irregularities in his admission" he said.
The former VC, Prof. Ogbulu, was rumoured and alleged to be a traditional ruler as well as a university VC and was also said to have resigned before now.
Precisely on Sunday, when confronted on the rumours and on the allegations, he said he had nothing to say until panel report is released.
